University of Basrah Faculty Member Participates in Ministerial Workshop on the Spread of African Catfish
Dr. Khalida Salim Khudair, a faculty member at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, participated in a specialized workshop organized by the Advisors Commission at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers to discuss the implications of the spread of African catfish in Iraqi water bodies, in the presence of a group of specialists and relevant authorities.
Dr. Khalida presented a paper addressing the environmental and economic challenges arising from the spread of this invasive species and its effects on local fish populations and biodiversity. She also proposed scientific strategies for managing the species and explored its potential for economic utilization.
The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations, most notably strengthening institutional coordination, intensifying field surveys to monitor areas of spread, and developing integrated plans to limit its reproduction and protect the aquatic environment.
