Master’s Thesis at University of Basrah Examines the Spatial Analysis of the Household Furniture Industry
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah, examined “The Spatial Analysis of the Household Furniture Industry (Kitchens) in Basrah District: A Study in the Geography of Industry.”
The thesis, submitted by researcher Rusal Hashim Abdul-Wahid, focused on the household furniture industry, particularly kitchen manufacturing, examining its concept, importance, types, and historical development. It also analyzed the impact of natural, human, and economic geographical factors on the distribution and location of this industry.
The study was divided into four main chapters, in addition to an introduction and conclusion, providing a detailed examination of the industrial establishments, workforce structure, and ownership patterns in the study area.
The thesis concluded that geographical factors play a fundamental role in the establishment of this industry. It identified 74 operating establishments, with a notable spatial concentration in Hamdan Industrial Area, which accounted for 33 establishments and 443 workers out of a total workforce of 715 in the district, making it the primary industrial hub. Private ownership was overwhelmingly dominant among the establishments.
