College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences Discusses Preparations with the Iraqi Paralympic Committee for Hosting West Asia 2028 in Basrah
The Dean of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at University of Basrah, Dr. Haider Awfi Ahmed, received the President of the Iraqi Paralympic Committee, Mr. Firsat Shali, and his accompanying delegation to discuss cooperation and coordination and early preparations for hosting the West Asia Paralympic Games, scheduled to be held in Basrah in 2028.
The meeting was attended by members of the College Council. The Dean emphasized the College’s commitment to contributing to the preparations for this major sporting event and utilizing its academic and technical capabilities and sports facilities within frameworks of cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi Paralympic Committee and relevant authorities.
The two sides discussed preparations for the Games and ways to provide an appropriate sporting environment to ensure the success of the events, as well as the importance of early planning and integrating efforts between academic and sports institutions to support the successful hosting of this major sporting event in Basrah.
The delegation also toured a number of the College’s sports facilities, training halls, fields, and other sports amenities to review their technical and logistical capabilities and explore the possibility of utilizing them as part of the preparations for the Games.
Dr. Awfi affirmed the College’s commitment to playing its role in supporting the sports movement in Basrah Governorate, noting that cooperation with the Iraqi Paralympic Committee represents an important aspect of efforts to support athletes and sporting events and to benefit from the academic and technical expertise available at the College.
For his part, the President of the Iraqi Paralympic Committee presented the College Dean with the official file for hosting the West Asia Paralympic Games, reaffirming the importance of joint coordination and the College’s role in the preparations for the anticipated event.
