University of Basrah Holds Iraqi Flag-Raising Ceremony to Mark National Sports Day

University of Basrah held an official Iraqi flag-raising ceremony to mark National Sports Day, with broad participation from faculty members, staff, and students at the College of Nursing courtyard in the Bab Al-Zubair Colleges Complex.

During the ceremony, speeches were delivered by the Administrative Assistant Dean of the College of Nursing, Dr. Abdul-Karim Salman; the Director of the Student Activities Department, Dr. Ghassan Adnan Qahtan; and the Director of the Department of Media and Governmental Communication at the University Presidency, Dr. Mazen Ali Lazim. They emphasized the importance of commemorating this national occasion and the noble values it represents.

The celebration featured a variety of activities combining national heritage with sporting competition. The program began with the flag-raising ceremony, followed by a football match for faculty members, as well as a sporting marathon with broad and diverse participation from university staff, students, and faculty members. Together, they embodied the event’s slogan: “Sports… Energy That Builds the Human Being.”

University of Basrah affirmed that the initiative is part of its ongoing activities plan aimed at promoting the values of citizenship and strengthening national spirit among students and academic and administrative staff.
