University of Basrah Strengthens Scientific Cooperation with Cihan University to Conduct Research Surveys of Dukan Lake
As part of the University of Basrah’s efforts to expand scientific and research cooperation with Iraqi universities and strengthen its role in conducting field studies related to the environment and water resources, the Marine Science Centre organized a scientific field trip for a team of its researchers to Cihan University, in preparation for launching a joint scientific project to conduct comprehensive geological, hydrological, and environmental surveys of Dukan Lake in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.
The visit comes within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Basrah and Cihan University. The research team is working to complete the scientific and technical arrangements required for the fieldwork in coordination with Cihan University and the relevant authorities in the Kurdistan Region. These efforts are intended to facilitate the team’s work and the transportation of scientific equipment and instruments from its temporary base in Erbil to the lake site.
The project aims to collect specialized scientific and field data that will contribute to enhancing knowledge of the geological, hydrological, and environmental characteristics of Dukan Lake and supporting scientific studies related to water resources and ecosystems. It also seeks to develop mechanisms for joint research activities and open new avenues for future scientific and research projects and programmes addressing environmental and water issues and sustainable development in Iraq.
