University of Basrah Students Stand Out at the 2026 World Youth Festival in Russia
The Iraqi Youth and Student Delegation, with representatives from various governorates, made an active contribution to the activities of the World Youth Festival (2026 IFY) held in the Russian Federation, with the participation of more than 10,000 young people from 192 countries.
University of Basrah was represented at the festival by Ali Wisam Mohsen and Mohammed Hussein Firas, students at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Department of Cybersecurity. They participated in a number of significant international events and meetings.
Their participation included attending a conference with Russian Minister of Education Valery Falkov to discuss the development of scholarships and opportunities available to international students. They also attended a conference by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and listened to a speech delivered by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the festival’s opening ceremony.
On the technical and professional front, the two students made field visits to several Russian technology and cybersecurity companies, including Kaspersky, to learn about the latest developments in technology and cybersecurity.
In a notable achievement, student Ali Wisam Mohsen won first place in a mini chess tournament organized by the club of world chess player Sergey Karjakin, adding another achievement to University of Basrah students’ participation in international youth events.
The participation concluded with a meeting between the two students and the Director of the Russian National Youth Committee, during which an agreement was reached to establish a Friendship Club for the Iraqi Youth Committee, contributing to strengthening youth and leadership communication and cooperation between the two countries during the coming period.
