Doctoral Dissertation at University of Basrah Examines Optimal Sites for Water-Harvesting Reservoirs and Dams
A doctoral dissertation at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, investigated the most suitable potential sites for reservoirs and dams designed for water harvesting in central Iraq.
The dissertation, submitted by student Sahar Munther Rasan, aimed to identify suitable areas for rainwater harvesting and locations appropriate for dam construction using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and multi-criteria analysis techniques.
The dissertation comprised five chapters in which the researcher used rainfall data from 1981 to 2022 to estimate surface runoff depths for return periods ranging from 5 to 100 years using the HEC-HMS model.
