University of Basrah Discusses Green Belt Development and Desertification Control with Basrah Governorate
The Dean of the College of Agriculture at University of Basrah, Dr. Sarmad Ghazi Mohammed Al-Shawi, discussed with Basrah Deputy Governor Engineer Hassan Al-Najjar and Basrah Agriculture Director Engineer Hadi Hussein ways to strengthen joint cooperation in the environmental and agricultural fields and address the challenges of desertification.
The meeting addressed the outcomes of advanced training programs recently attended by both sides in the People’s Republic of China, focusing on desertification control, sand dune stabilization, modern irrigation technologies, and water resource management.
The participants also discussed utilizing the expertise gained to develop strategic projects, most notably the Basrah Governorate Green Belt Project, and submitting it to the local government for funding. They also agreed to organize a specialized scientific conference to address water scarcity and climate change.
