Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Evaluates Urban Quality of Life Indicators in Umm Qasr
A master’s thesis at the College of Education for Human Sciences, University of Basrah, examined the topic of “Evaluating Urban Quality of Life Indicators in the City of Umm Qasr.”
The thesis, presented by student Ali Mohammed Ali, aimed to conduct a comprehensive survey of basic services in the city in terms of their area, number, and spatial distribution, in order to assess their current status, identify their efficiency, and determine any shortages in facilities or staffing levels. It also sought to measure residents’ satisfaction and the factors influencing it, analyze income levels, employment opportunities, and social security, and identify the most affected neighborhoods to help guide development plans and propose measures to improve the city’s ranking according to quality-of-life indicators.
The study included a detailed analysis of the size, growth, and demographic composition of the population, as well as its population weight. It also examined urban land uses in Umm Qasr, including residential, commercial, industrial, and service uses, in addition to land allocated for transportation and other purposes.
