PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates Fertilization and Foliar Stimulation Techniques to Increase Broccoli Yield
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the effect of foliar spraying with iron, boron, and sorbitol on the growth and yield of two broccoli hybrids.
The dissertation, presented by researcher Hamid Hamoud Mahawish, aimed to evaluate the response of broccoli to foliar application of these treatments and examine the effects of different concentrations on vegetative, physiological, productive, chemical, and quality characteristics.
The results showed that foliar application of iron and boron at concentrations of 150 and 100 mg L⁻¹, respectively, and sorbitol at a concentration of 10 g L⁻¹, produced superior results across most of the studied characteristics. The Umbrella hybrid also showed superior performance.
The study recommended adopting these treatments and conducting further research using different concentrations and hybrids.
