Minister of Higher Education Chairs Committee Meeting on Removing Radioactive Contamination Across Iraq
Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Abdul Hussein Al-Mousawi chaired a meeting of the committee tasked with removing radioactive contamination across the Republic of Iraq, including the governorates of the Kurdistan Region, in the presence of representatives of the relevant ministries and governmental and security agencies.
The meeting discussed mechanisms for joint coordination and action among the concerned sectors to follow up on the decontamination of targeted sites and areas and to apply strict radiation safety and protection standards to safeguard the environment and public health.
The committee chairman stressed the importance of concerted national efforts and integrating the scientific, technical, and oversight roles of the relevant authorities to achieve a safe environment free from radioactive contamination across the country.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Committee Chairman and Adviser Dr. Hamid Majid Mijbal Al-Bahili, a member of the Board of Advisers, along with representatives of the National Authority for Nuclear, Radiological, Chemical and Biological Control, the Ministry of Environment, the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission, the Department of Cabinet and Committee Affairs at the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, as well as representatives of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Popular Mobilization Forces, and Babil Governorate.
