Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Preparation of Ketoconazole Gel
A Master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated the in vitro preparation, characterization, and evaluation of a novasome-based ketoconazole gel.
The thesis, presented by student Doaa Jabbar Subhi, aimed to encapsulate the drug ketoconazole within novasome vesicular delivery systems. Furthermore, the study sought to demonstrate the effect of co-surfactants on novasome formulation, as well as to select the appropriate pharmaceutical dosage form for the ketoconazole-loaded novasome suspension.
The thesis comprised five chapters, during which the student discussed the hypothesis that novasomes serve as an excellent vesicular delivery system with nanoscale sizes and a narrow polydispersity index. This enhances the efficacy of ketoconazole by improving its release and dispersion through the culture medium, as well as facilitating its permeability through the fungal cell wall due to the presence of stearic acid as a penetration enhancer.
