University of Basrah Spearheads Qualitative Training Transformation in Collaboration with Provincial Oil and Gas Committee
Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan, President of the University of Basrah, received envoys representing Iman Al-Maliki, Member of the Basra Provincial Council and Head of the Oil and Gas Committee, to discuss and launch an extraordinary, comprehensive training program in partnership with Basra Oil Company (BOC).
The meeting focused on establishing the core frameworks of the program. In its initial phase, the initiative targets students from the College of Engineering—specifically the Department of Petroleum Engineering across their second, third, and fourth academic years—alongside a dedicated, independent track tailored for engineering graduates from the University of Basrah.
The defining feature of this initiative is its transition toward an integrated, year-long educational journey, moving far beyond the conventional month-long summer training model. Extending across a full academic year, the program ensures a deep mastery of practical skills by seamlessly combining theoretical instruction with hands-on application in field sites and technical laboratories. This approach effectively bridges the gap between academic curricula and modern labor market demands, utilizing a progressive learning structure that delivers specialized foundational content for second through fourth-year students, who are closest to entering the workforce. Furthermore, the initiative incorporates a targeted module for graduates, with strategic plans for future expansion to encompass all other engineering disciplines.
