Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus Explores Enhancing Programmatic Accreditation Pathway across Iraqi Universities

The Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus convened with the heads and members of national programmatic accreditation councils to review their operational performance, key achievements, and current challenges. The meeting focused on updating programmatic accreditation mechanisms and reinforcing the quality assurance system across Iraqi public and private universities.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Salah Hadi Saleh, Head of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus, underscored the vital role played by programmatic accreditation councils in elevating higher education quality. He noted that programmatic accreditation serves as a dynamic pathway for continuous improvement, enhancing academic performance and aligning educational output with labor market needs, sustainable development goals, and rapid technological advancements.

The discussions covered the current status of programmatic accreditation in Iraq and the progress made by the councils in developing and implementing national accreditation standards. The participants also outlined future requirements and strategies to modernize operational workflows in line with regional and international best practices in quality assurance and academic accreditation.

For their part, the heads of the programmatic accreditation councils presented progress reports detailing key milestones, alongside the operational hurdles facing their mission. They highlighted ongoing initiatives to strengthen collaboration with specialized international bodies and organizations, aiming to meet global benchmarks for international recognition.

Furthermore, the session examined the councils' efforts to embed a robust quality culture within academic institutions. Discussions emphasized evaluating program objectives, learning outcomes, curricula, teaching and learning methodologies, and assessment frameworks, transitioning toward outcome-based practices, evidence-driven evaluation, and continuous quality enhancement.

Participants reviewed several strategic proposals aimed at optimizing council operations, fostering closer coordination among the councils, the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Apparatus, and universities, and updating evaluation criteria and frameworks to keep pace with global developments in academic accreditation.
