Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines the Hydraulic Performance of Piano Key Weirs
A master’s thesis at the College of Engineering, University of Basrah, investigated the hydraulic performance of a piano key weir with different crest configurations through an experimental laboratory study.
The thesis, presented by the student Muhannad Rahman Baier, aimed to evaluate the effect of different inlet and outlet configurations of the piano key weir crest on its hydraulic efficiency under both free-flow and submerged-flow conditions. The study employed an integrated approach combining laboratory experiments with numerical modeling.
The thesis comprised four chapters, in which the student discussed the design and fabrication of nine different piano key weir models incorporating various geometric configurations for the inlets and outlets, including planar, semicircular, quarter-circle, triangular, and zigzag shapes.
