PhD Dissertation at the University of Basrah Investigates the Molecular Impact of Genetically Modified Bacteria on Cowpea growth
A PhD dissertation at the College of Agriculture, University of Basrah, investigated the molecular characterization and genetic modification of locally isolated bacteria and their effect on the growth and yield of cowpea plants grown in saline irrigated soil in Basra Governorate.
The dissertation, submitted by researcher Alaa Maitham Khairallah, aimed to evaluate the efficacy of local bacterial isolates in enhancing the growth and productivity of cowpea plants under saline conditions and to identify the most efficient isolates in supporting their tolerance to salt stress.
The study included the isolation and molecular and genetic characterization of the bacteria, as well as evaluating their impact on growth and yield indicators.
The dissertation recommended utilizing the effective isolates and expanding field studies and molecular applications to improve crop productivity in saline-affected lands.
