University of Basrah Outlines Its New Academic Roadmap During Third Council Session Across Morning and Evening Meetings

The Council of the University of Basrah convened its third session for the 2026–2027 academic year, chaired by Dr. Aqeel Fadhil Al-Dahan, in the presence of the Vice Presidents for Scientific and Administrative Affairs, the Council Secretary, and members to deliberate on administrative, academic, and organizational items listed on the agenda.

The session witnessed the approval of the previous meeting's minutes and a review of directives issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research regarding the University of Basrah University Hospital, alongside guidance provided by the University President.

Under the undergraduate studies track, the Council discussed the implementation of the Bologna Process, in addition to addressing tuition fee reductions for top-performing students during the evening session dedicated to the Supervising Committee for Evening Studies.

Regarding postgraduate studies, deliberations focused on extending exceptional deadline extensions for contract staff students, modifying proposed master's and doctoral study plans for the 2026–2027 academic year, and updating scientific research publication mechanisms.

Furthermore, the Council considered the establishment of new evening study programs across select colleges. It reviewed the report presented by the Director of the Quality Assurance and Academic Performance Department, which featured the formal adoption of the university's revised vision, mission, and objectives, the formation of a committee to update the University of Basrah's Strategic Plan, and the endorsement of quality assurance manuals, alongside hearing reports submitted by representatives of research centers and academic faculty.
