Master's Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines Placebo-Controlled L-Carnitine Supplementation
A master's thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, examined a prospective, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of L-carnitine supplementation in children with autism spectrum disorder: clinical and biochemical outcomes.
The thesis, submitted by student Ali Mohsen Saleh, aimed to evaluate the clinical and biochemical effects of L-carnitine supplementation in children with autism spectrum disorder compared to a placebo, and to study the correlation between clinical improvement and changes in carnitine levels and indicators of antioxidant defense and oxidative stress.
The thesis comprised four chapters in which the student discussed providing clinical and biochemical evidence for the potential use of L-carnitine as an adjunctive therapy under medical supervision in some children with autism spectrum disorder.
