Master’s Thesis at the University of Basrah Examines Strategies to Reduce Candida Growth in Cancer Patients
A master’s thesis at the College of Pharmacy, University of Basrah, investigated strategies to reduce the growth of Candida fungi in the gastrointestinal tract of patients with cancer and stroke.
The thesis, presented by student Ali Abdul Ridha Hussein, aimed to investigate and diagnose fungal infections in these two groups of patients, assess their susceptibility and resistance to antifungal drugs, and develop an antifungal treatment formulation.
The thesis comprised four chapters, in which the student discussed the prevalence and distribution of Candida species and their antifungal susceptibility patterns among cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and hospitalized stroke patients. The study included 258 patients.
