Faculty Member at the University of Basrah Delivers a Lecture at the Iraqi Writers Union Documenting the History of Iraqi Elections
Dr. Hamid Ahmed Al-Hamdan, a lecturer at the University of Basrah, delivered a scholarly lecture at the Iraqi Writers Union entitled "The Iraqi National Assembly and Parliamentary Elections in Iraq."
Al-Hamdan reviewed the origins of the electoral process in Iraq during the monarchy, relying on rare historical documents and sources, including the 1924 Iraqi Constitution in three languages. He presented documentary evidence illustrating the circumstances and interventions that shaped the election results at that time, and offered an analytical comparison between elections during the monarchy and contemporary elections.
The session was moderated by Dr. Mushtaq Eidan Al-Makhass and included interventions from writers and intellectuals. It concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the lecturer and the moderator in recognition of their contributions to enriching the cultural landscape.
