University of Basrah Introduces Students to Modern Plant Tissue Culture Techniques
The University of Basrah introduced its students to modern plant tissue culture techniques. The Palm Research Center hosted a group of students from the Food Science Department at the College of Agriculture, accompanied by faculty members, to learn about the stages of date palm propagation using plant tissue culture techniques.
The visit included an overview of the workflow in the tissue culture laboratory and the propagation stages, as well as a discussion of the most significant challenges facing tissue culture plants and the scientific methods used to address and mitigate them.
Dr. Khayoun Ali Mohsen, Head of the Propagation Department at the Center, and specialized faculty members provided a detailed explanation of the stages of date palm tissue culture propagation, the equipment and nutrient media used, the most prominent problems encountered by tissue culture plants, and ways to minimize them.
This visit comes within the framework of strengthening scientific cooperation among the various departments of the University of Basrah, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and providing students with the opportunity to learn about modern techniques used in the field of plant tissue culture.
