University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Optical Scattering
The College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah organized a workshop entitled: Dynamic Optical Scattering for Particle Size Analysis: An Overview.
The workshop aimed to provide a simplified and comprehensive scientific explanation of how DLS (Dynamic Light Scattering) technology works, how to measure the size of nanoparticles, and how to interpret the results. This was intended to help participants correctly understand the measurement results, such as the difference between intensity, size, and number distributions.
The workshop included a lecture presented by instructor Fatima Raed Mohammed, who explained the principle of DLS technology, its definition, and its applications. She also presented a timeline of the most prominent scientists who contributed to its development, and the theoretical basis of the technology, starting with the correlation function and the Stokes-Einstein equation, and progressing to the scattering vector, the types of distribution (intensity, size, and number), and the correlation coefficient.
