University of Basrah Investigates Molecular Diagnosis of Parasites Shared Between Cattle and Humans
A PhD dissertation at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basrah, investigated the diagnosis of certain parasites shared between cattle and humans in the province.
The dissertation, presented by researcher Raghad Shareef Ibrahim, aimed to identify intestinal parasites, determine their molecular structure, assess their transmission between humans and cattle, and examine their histological and immunological effects.
The study included microscopic and molecular examination of 700 samples, an investigation into the correlation between infections and environmental and seasonal factors, and histological and immunological experiments on rats.
The study concluded that parasitic infections exist in both humans and cattle, and that water and soil contamination is present, with genetic similarities supporting the possibility of transmission between them.
The dissertation recommended improving water and sanitation treatment, developing health awareness and waste management practices, and implementing the "One Health" concept.
