University of Basrah Organizes Scientific Workshop on Chitosan and Sustainable Animal Production
⠀
The College of Agriculture at the University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop titled "The Importance of Chitosan in Ruminant Nutrition: Its Role in Improving Productive Efficiency and Enhancing Animal Production Sustainability."
⠀
The workshop aimed to introduce the significance of chitosan—extracted from marine crustacean waste—as a promising bioactive alternative in ruminant nutrition.
⠀
Presented by Dr. Jalal Akeeli Yesser and Mrs. Manal Ali Ahmed, the workshop detailed chitosan's impact on rumen fermentation and highlighted its role in reducing methane and ammonia emissions while improving overall animal health.
⠀
The workshop recommended expanding applied studies to determine optimal chitosan dosage levels and utilizing marine by-products to produce sustainable feed additives that support a circular economy and enhance food security.
