University of Basrah Organizes Awareness Workshop on Early Detection of Breast Cancer
⠀
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized an awareness workshop on the early detection of breast cancer, in cooperation with the Basrah Hospital for Obstetrics and Children (Ibn Ghazwan).
⠀
The workshop aimed to instill early health awareness, establish preventive screening as a regular habit among women from a young age, and cultivate awareness ambassadors among female staff members to share health knowledge within their families and communities. It also encouraged routine mammogram screenings, highlighting the university's enlightened role in community service and strengthening ties with healthcare institutions.
⠀
Presented by Dr. Zainab Kamil Dhahi, a specialist at the Basrah Hospital for Obstetrics and Children, the workshop provided an overview of breast cancer and emphasized that early detection increases recovery rates to 90%. It detailed normal versus warning indicators requiring medical evaluation, outlined practical steps for monthly self-examinations, specified the timing and locations for clinical mammogram screenings, and highlighted the role of healthy lifestyle habits and psychosocial support.
