University of Basrah Contributes to Reviving the Musical Heritage of Mesopotamian Civilization
University of Basrah affirmed that Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian songs contained intricate social themes and details of daily life in Mesopotamia, representing a cultural legacy that reflects the depth of Iraqi civilization.
Dr. Adel Hashem, a professor in the College of Arts, explained that the university is contributing to the revival of this important cultural aspect through the translation and editing of original texts. These texts were set to music in a contemporary style by composer Anwar Abu Ragheef, performed by artist Balsam Al-Tai, and directed by Jabbar Al-Janabi. The production was later completed by director Ricardos Yousef, under the auspices of the Echo of Civilizations Foundation.
This initiative aligns with the University of Basrah's commitment to supporting cultural projects that aim to revive Mesopotamian cultural heritage and present it to future generations with a contemporary perspective.
