University of Basrah Launches Awareness Campaign on Thalassemia
The College of Education for Humanities at the University of Basrah, in cooperation with the Basra Health Department/Al-Haritha Sector, conducted an awareness campaign targeting students, under the supervision of the Director of the University Health Center, Pharmacist Haider Abdul-Ridha Al-Sahlani.
The campaign aimed to raise health awareness and educate students about the nature of thalassemia as a hereditary blood disorder, explaining its causes, modes of transmission, and methods of prevention, while encouraging healthy behaviors.
The campaign included providing medical guidance, emphasizing the importance of premarital screening to identify carriers of the genetic trait, thus contributing to the protection of future generations and reducing the spread of the disease.
