Faculty Members at Basrah University Publish Research in a British Journal
Faculty members at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Basrah, Dr. Iman Tariq Ali and Dr. Hussein Nasser Khalaf, published a research paper titled "2-(Benzhydryl sulfinyl)-N-sec-butylacetamide isolated from fig fruits as a potential immune response modulator" in the British journal Cogent Food & Agriculture, which has an impact factor of 2.7 and an average citation rate of 3.3.
The research evaluated the effects of the new compound (2-(benzhydrylsulfinyl)-N-sec-butylacetamide) on macrophage cells (RAW 264.7) involved in phagocytic activities, as well as its impact on the growth of gram-negative Escherichia coli (E. coli).
The study concluded that E. coli was significantly eliminated in response to treatment.
The aim of the research was to assess whether this compound has the potential to activate macrophages by increasing bacterial uptake, enhancing the acidity of vesicles, and stimulating the production of lysosomal vesicles.
