Basrah University Organizes an Awareness Seminar on the Use of Antibiotics
The College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah, in cooperation with Basrah Health Directorate, organized an awareness seminar on antibiotics.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the unnecessary use of antibiotics, such as for viral infections, which can lead to antibiotic resistance. This resistance occurs when antibiotics can no longer kill bacteria, resulting in some antibiotics becoming less effective against the bacterial infections they were designed to treat.
The seminar, delivered by pharmacist Alaa Mohammed Mahmoud, included an analytical review of the World Health Organization's action plan and resistance data in Basrah for 2023. It also provided a detailed explanation of antimicrobial resistance and its impact on public health, along with presenting recent data on the prevalence of antibiotic resistance in Basrah Governorate.
