PhD Thesis at Basrah University Explores Stock of Two Shrimp Species in Iraqi Waters
A PhD thesis at the Faculty of Agriculture, Basrah University, evaluated the stock of two shrimp species in Iraqi waters.
The thesis, presented by PhD student Kholoud Abd-Ali Hasan, aims to determine some life characteristics and stock indicators of two shrimp species in Iraqi waters.
The thesis included analyses of catch quantities, length frequencies, length-weight relationships, relative condition factors, sex ratios, first sexual maturity, gonadal function, growth models, and rates of total, natural, and fishing mortality and exploitation. Additionally, it determined the first length of capture, supply pattern, and relative production of supply with virtual population analysis.
The thesis concluded that there is a noticeable increase in shrimp catches and their contribution percentage to the total catch in Iraqi waters.
