Basrah University Organizes a Lecture on Aquatic Weeds in Iraq
The Marine Science Center at Basrah University organized a scientific lecture titled "Types of Aquatic Weeds in Iraq and Methods to Control Them."
The lecture, presented by Dr. Mahmoud Shaker Hashem, focused on the plants "Water Hyacinth" and "Swamp Alligator," as they are the most prevalent in Iraqi rivers compared to other types of aquatic weeds. It included a description of their reproduction methods, geographical distribution, and the significant harm they cause to aquatic biodiversity. The lecture also covered mechanical, biological, and chemical methods used to control their spread, explaining the pros and cons of each method individually.
