Basrah University Organizes Workshop on DNA Extraction and Next-Generation Sequencing.
The Marine Science Center at Basrah University organized a workshop on DNA extraction methods and next-generation sequencing technology.
The workshop, presented by Dr. Ahmed Youssef Lafta, included an explanation of the structure of nucleic acids, their location in the cell, and methods for chemically and physically extracting nucleic acids from plant tissues using next-generation sequencing techniques.
The workshop clarified the nature of sequencing technologies, which rely on determining the order of nitrogenous bases in DNA. It highlighted applications in various vital fields such as medicine, agriculture, environment, and biodiversity studies. It also introduced the tools and equipment used in both extraction and sequencing, as well as how to analyze the data resulting from sequencing.
