After a long hiatus, Basrah University Took Part in the 2024 Iraqi Universities Swimming Championship
Basrah University of swimming team took part in the championship held at Baghdad University, which began with the participation of seventy public and private universities following a lengthy break in organizing the event.
Basrah University team was represented by four swimmers, according to the Director of the Student Activities Department, Dr. Ghassan Al-Bajari, who stated, 'We participated with four competitors in various races, including the 100-meter and 50-meter events, classified into freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and relay. The championship aims to encourage the practice of swimming among university students, discover young talents in this field, and strengthen bonds and cooperation among Iraqi universities.'
Al-Bajari attributed the lack of tangible results achieved by Basrah University team in the championship to their unpreparedness, due to limited resources and a lack of training facilities caused by the absence of infrastructure, such as an Olympic swimming pool for training and the lack of alternative private pools for the team to practice in.
