Basrah University Organizes a Workshop on Biological Hazards in Research Laboratories
The College of Pharmacy at University of Basrah organized a workshop on biological hazards in research laboratories for graduate students.
The workshop aimed to clarify the safety procedures used for research by graduate students and to identify the types of microbes and their products and procedures for dealing with them to maintain the safety of laboratory workers.
The workshop included a lecture given by Dr. Zuhair Al-Shaheen, in which he explained that pathogens are divided into four basic groups that depend on safety and security procedures according to each group. The procedural processes for disposing of biological waste resulting from these experiments and the different methods for destroying them were also identified, as well as how to sterilize and get rid of pollution using different methods, whether physical or chemical, depending on the type of microorganism.
