A PhD Thesis at Basrah University Examines the Use of Solar Energy in a Water Desalination Plant
A PhD thesis at the College of Engineering at the University of Basrah examined the use of solar energy in a multi-stage flash evaporation water desalination plant in the climate of Basrah city.
The thesis included a statement of whether the climate of Basrah city is suitable for establishing a solar-powered water desalination system or not. The integrated system consists of two directly coupled subsystems: the parabolic solar collector and the 24-stage multi-stage water desalination system.
The thesis submitted by the student Muhammad Karim Salem aims to benefit from the solar energy available in Basrah city by using the parabolic solar collector to operate the multi-stage flash evaporation water desalination system, and to find the possibility of implementing a single-stage water desalination unit through its design, construction, operation and testing.
