University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on the Impacts and Risks of Cyber Extortion
The Cultural Center of Basrah University, in collaboration with the Basrah Police Department and the College of Law and Politics, organized an awareness and educational seminar on "Cyber Extortion: Its Impacts and Risks."
The seminar aimed to raise awareness within the academic community about the dangers of engaging with cyber extortion, emphasizing that it is a punishable crime by law and outlining the necessary steps individuals should take if they fall victim to extortion.
The seminar covered the definition of cyber extortion as a crime, the mechanisms and conditions for filing a legal complaint, the role of tribal leaders in mitigating the phenomenon socially, and the psychological side effects that extortion may have on individuals. Additionally, the discussion included numerous social models and successful experiences in curbing extortion.
