University of Basrah Organizes Workshop on Fish Mortality in Iraqi Marshlands
The College of Science at the University of Basrah held a scientific workshop on the mortality of fish in the Iraqi marshlands, focusing on reasons and proposed solutions.
The workshop aimed to shed light on the marshland environment and the causes of fish mortality.
Dr. Najah Aboud Hussein and Dr. Amjad Kazem Risan led the workshop, discussing the reductive conditions prevalent in the marshlands that lead to reduced dissolved oxygen in the water and its impact on fish life.
The workshop recommended increasing water releases into the marshlands, prohibiting the use of toxins in fishing, reintroducing native fish into the marshlands, and preserving the marshland environment due to its national significance.
