University of Basrah Hosts Scientific Lecture on Environmental Destruction in Wartime: "From Conflict to Pollution"
The College of Science at the University of Basrah organized a scientific lecture focused on environmental destruction during wartime, titled "From Conflict to Pollution."
The lecture aimed to highlight overlooked aspects of war impacts and the necessity of raising environmental awareness during armed conflicts. It emphasized enforcing international laws to protect the environment in such times and rehabilitating affected areas through dedicated budgets to mitigate war-induced pollution.
Presented by Dr. Afaq Mahdi Jabr, the lecture outlined how wars are among the most destructive human activities to the environment, causing significant harm to ecosystems. This leads to environmental degradation and the loss of many natural characteristics.
