University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Palm Tree Propagation through Tissue Culture
The Date Palm Research Center at the University of Basrah held a seminar on the propagation of date palms using tissue culture technology.
The session, led by Dr. Khayon Ali Muhsin, introduced the technique and explored the experimental factors contributing to its success, such as using previously unused combinations in forming lateral buds and utilizing growth regulators during the rooting stage to produce plants with robust roots. The use of liquid medium was also highlighted for hardening the plants and encouraging the formation of absorbing rootlets.
The seminar emphasized the significant impact of using agricultural nylon to cover the plants, which greatly enhanced the acclimatization process, as well as the fabric shade, which contributed to improved growth of the acclimatized plants.
