In pursuit of environmental sustainability, University of Basrah organizes a course on the use of eco-friendly green alternatives
The Marine Science Center organized a course on the benefits of using polymeric materials to reduce environmental pollution of water and air.
The course, presented by Dr. Mohammed Mahdi Al-Musawi, covered methods to address environmental pollution caused by dust, toxic heavy metals, plastics, and wastewater through the use of various natural polymers and polymers manufactured from natural or organically biodegradable materials, as opposed to harmful chemical additives. This makes them an eco-friendly and successful green alternative.
The course categorized natural polymers into several types, including cellulose, starches, and numerous biopolymer derivatives from biological sources like plants and marine organisms. It also studied their ability to purify water by removing toxic heavy metals through precipitation and adsorption of pollutants.
