University of Basrah Organizes Seminar on Amendments to Personal Status Law
The General Secretariat of the Central Library, in collaboration with the Women's Empowerment Division and the Bar Association in Basrah, organized a seminar on amendments to the Personal Status Law.
The seminar, led by lawyers Ahmed Riyadh Ramidh and Adnan Abdulzahra Khudair, aimed to educate the academic community about the amended legal articles, the stance of Islamic law on them, and analyze the proposals for amendment.
It highlighted the impact of the amended articles on society, emphasizing the balance between traditions and legal and religious needs. Discussions included proposed changes such as adjusting the legal marriage age from 18 to include minors as young as nine, custody laws for fathers post the child's age of seven, and inheritance laws to ensure the rights of all family members.
