For the sake of water sustainability... University of Basrah organizes a scientific lecture on artisanal fisheries
The Marine Science Center at Basrah University organized a scientific lecture on the artisanal fisheries in the Arabian Gulf.
The lecture, presented by the faculty member Adi Muhammad Hassan, analyzed reports from the Regional Commission for Fisheries affiliated with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and connected information derived from published studies in this regard to provide essential information for the sustainable management of fisheries.
The lecture emphasized the importance of fisheries in the Gulf due to their connection to the food security of the people in the region and the necessity for regional countries to cooperate in maintaining and sustainably managing these fish stocks, especially fish populations that are exploited by multiple countries. It also prioritized improving fisheries statistics management of heavily exploited stocks and encouraging the exchange of statistics, information, and technical expertise among countries in the region.
