PhD Thesis at Basrah University Explores Therapeutic Alternative for Broiler Chicks
A PhD thesis at the College of Agriculture, Basrah University, investigated the production of antibodies from chicken eggs and their use as a therapeutic alternative for broiler chicks.
The study, presented by PhD candidate Silwan Abdul-Amir Qasim, aimed at assessing the possibility of producing antibodies against one of the most common bacterial strains found in fields and poultry, Escherichia coli.
The thesis involved three scientific experiments, including isolating and diagnosing the pathogenic bacteria from infected broiler chicks, then using it to inoculate laying hens to produce antibodies. These antibodies were passed into the eggs, with the yolk later being used to feed the broiler chicks.
The thesis concluded with improved productive, immune, and physiological traits in the broiler chicks.
