For Sustainability in Upbringing and Childhood... University of Basrah Organizes a Seminar on Children's Human Rights
The General Secretariat of the Central Library, in collaboration with the College of Arts at the University of Basrah, organized a scientific seminar on children's rights and skill development on the occasion of World Children's Day.
The seminar, presented by Dr. Raghd Faisal, Dr. Ara Jassim, and Dr. Zainab Jassim, addressed children's rights in Arab and Islamic societies and future developmental plans undertaken by some Arab countries. It covered topics such as child labor, domestic violence, and child protection laws in Arab countries.
The seminar also explored children's rights according to the United Nations Charter and Islamic jurisprudence, including the selection of surrogate mothers (caretakers), beautiful naming, legitimate parentage, choices regarding childbirth, family planning, the right to breastfeeding, a dignified life, educational opportunities, and the negative impacts on children's mental health. It also discussed the recruitment of children in wars, their use as human shields, the health effects of childhood obesity, addiction to drugs and mobile phones, and school dropout rates.
