For Sustainable Development in Preserving Biodiversity in Water .. University of Basrah Organizes a Symposium on Shrimp Farming
The Marine Science Center at the University of Basrah organized a scientific symposium on shrimp farming methods and their importance in the national economic product.
The symposium, in which Dr. Ibtisam Mahdi Abdul-Sahib lectured, dealt with the types and scientific classifications of shrimp in the Iraqi salty and fresh water environment, the factors suitable for its farming in laboratory farms and the types of its presence in the world, and its great economic importance in the fishing, aquaculture, trade and food industries as it provides a source of livelihood for many people, and financial revenues that support the national economy of developing countries.
The symposium proposed a set of solutions to address the environmental impacts on shrimp, including high salinity rates in water, pollution, disease management methods, marketing problems, and emphasizing commitment to sustainable practices to ensure that shrimp remains a vital component of global food security.
