Basrah University Organizes a Lecture on the Security Council’s Intervention in Climate Change
The College of Law at Basrah University organized a lecture on the intervention of the Security Council in climate change issues.
The lecture aims to educate about the role of the Security Council in climate change, especially after many decisions issued by the General Assembly and international bodies concerned with climate change.
The lecture, presented by the academic Wahj Khudair Abbas, included a statement on the first meeting of the Security Council to discuss climate changes and their impact on international peace and security in April 2007. This discussion was repeated in the years 2011, 2017, and 2018 to understand the security risks of climate changes, which cause an impact on weakening food security, air pollution, as well as increasing disputes over water, internal displacement, and environmental migration due to their advanced causes and seriousness.
