A Patent for the Production of Amoxicillin Derivative as an Anti-microbial Agent

Aresearch team in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Basra, including Dr. Wasfi Abood Al-Masoodi, Dr Suhair Al-Idrisi, Dr Rasha Munther Uthman and Dr Nawras Abd Al-Ilah Alwan, obtained a patent for their research (Production of amoxicillin drug derivative as an anti-parasite and anti-microbial agent).

Team leader Dr Al-Masoodi stated that the team could prepare an antibiotic for treating kinds of fungi and parasites which is the amoxicillin drug in order to produce a new, highly effective derivative for inhibiting bacteria. It is more effective than amoxicillin in treating fungi as well as parasites that inflict poultry, known as coccidia.

The team worked on this project for one whole year in the College’s specialist labs and it was granted a patent by the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control.
