Dr. Khaleda Salem Al Naim, Dr. Majid Makki Taher and Dr. Fatima Abdul Hussein the academics at faculty of Agriculture, university of Basrah published their research tagged (The possibility of botanical preparations in inhibiting the infection of tilapia of Ichthyophonus sp : Preliminary laboratory study) in Academy of Sciences journal classified as Thomson classification.
Al Naim said that the research included a mushroom sensitivity test Ichthyophonus sp (causing Ichthyophonus disease in fish, which affects the skin, muscles and internal organs) isolated from Nile tilapia, raw water extracts of ginger, Linum usitatissimum, henna and Curcuma zedoaria by follow of Disc diffusion method.
All extracts gave a strong inhibitory effect for mushroom growth, especially in the concentration of 20% compared to other concentrations (5, 10 and 15%).
The results showed that the water extract of ginger was the most effective in inhibiting the growth of the fungus, and the least inhibition of fungi was in the water extract of turmeric.
