The Department of Horticulture and Gardening at the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Basrah held a workshop on the date palm propagation problems by planting and its treatment methods.
Dr. Abbas Mahdi Jassim, the head of Horticulture and Gardening department, mentioned that the workshop included six scientific papers to cover the following topics: (Integrated management of palm dates planting before and after agriculture, the effect of salinity on the success and growth of seedlings, the impact of environmental conditions in the success of cultivation and factors affecting the success of planting, nutrition and fertilization after planting, as well as, fungal diseases that affect date palm planting), explaining that during the workshop the working papers presented were discussed and extended the following recommendations (Set a standard specifications of palm dates planting that are suitable for the extraction and planting as well as the correct method of planting them after the extraction and the need to replace saline soils within planting area to be suitable and the use of water with an appropriate amounts of salinity in the first months of planting).
