The Faculty of Science at the University of Basrah organized a seminar entitled "General Introduction to Snakes and Methods of Collecting Samples".
The researcher, Mohammed Riyad Mohammed, presented some aspects about snakes, including its environmental importance, its great role within the environment balance, it's scientific, medical and industrial benefits and its relationship with humans. The seminar also included general features of reptiles and their evolutionary position among amphibians, birds, and mammals. The differences between phenotypes and snakes were discussed in terms of their toxicity, the environment in which they are present and the methods of proliferation, as well as the nature of their diets in terms of size and type of the victim. The researcher pointed out that some snakes feed on plants in special circumstances, and snakes were divided into toxic and low toxicity and the characteristics of each. The general appearance characteristics used in the classification of snakes such as the rows numbers of physical scales, the shape of the scales of the head, the number of skin, abdominal scales, the length of the length of the body and some special signs such as location, the movement of canines and the presence of grooves, The traps and selection of appropriate environments of their presence and for getting food.
